How do I actually unplug for an hour?
Short answer
The simplest version is to put yourself somewhere your phone cannot follow. A float suite does that structurally rather than relying on willpower — your phone stays in the room, you are in the tank, and for sixty minutes there is nothing to check.
Why the structure helps
Deciding not to look at a phone takes ongoing effort. Being somewhere it is genuinely impractical to use one takes none. That is most of what an hour in a float suite provides.
The first ten minutes are the loud ones
It is very common to spend the start of a float mentally working through a to-do list. That usually settles once there is nothing new arriving to add to it.
If an hour sounds like a lot
It is worth knowing you can end a session early, leave the door open, or keep music playing. None of that stops it being a break.
Good to know
- The relaxation room afterwards has tea, sketch books and colored pencils — worth staying for rather than going straight back to your phone.
